A BIT ABOUT US
Most people are surprised to hear that our names are not actually Bunky & Marie!
Doreen & Sara, we are a Mother & Daughter team here at Bunky's.
SO THEN, WHO IS BUNKY?
Our most asked question! The business is named after Doreen's Aunt & her Sister. Bunky (short for Bernice) and her sister Marie were two ladies that loved to have fun - unfortunately they were not here to see the business in their namesake, but we are certain they would have loved the idea!
Be sure to introduce yourself when you're shopping in our mobile boutique!
BACK IN THE DAY ...
Doreen started Bunky & Marie's back in 2013, a trendy little brick and Mortar store in the heart of Airdrie. Bunky's started out as a consignment store, a mix of gently used and new clothing. Over 20 local artisans displayed and sold their work in the boutique. We hosted ladies nights, fashion shows, DIY tutorials and had an absolute blast! In search of a better work/life balance, 2015 offered new possibilities, we closed that little shop and took Bunky on the road!
We gave new life to an old courier truck; paint, some elbow grease and a handy carpenter helped us create the Bunky Bus. From Airdrie to Red Deer, Calgary through to Okotoks, West to Cochrane and numerous stops in between our mobile boutique travels to various events and markets in Alberta.
Our online store has shipped from Vancouver Island to Newfoundland, right across Canada! Shopping in a mobile boutique in the dead of an Alberta winter is no fun, so we created our online store. Always open, all our styles can be found right here - no need to leave the couch (well .... maybe for another glass of wine)!
WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR CLOTHES?
We are often asked where we get our unique styles from ... an eclectic mix of feel good styles we bring a variety of brands from various manufacturers to create our online & mobile boutique. We source out and handpick everything!
We even have our own line that we design, print and press ourselves - one of a kind!
We have been fortunate to have found some truly unique ways to support local charities and organizations through our business. These are a few that we have been honoured to be a part of.
QUINNS LEGACY SOCIETY
Quinn's Legacy Society is a charity based here in Airdrie, Alberta - they made huge waves in bringing awareness to the lack of support there is for parents who have lost an infant child. We volunteered our time at their annual run retailing their merchandise out of our fashion truck. Quinn's Fox Shop had a special place on our website in 2018 and 2019 and we had fun designing new tanks for their clothing line.
2020 ALBERTA WINTER GAMES
In February 2020 we brushed the snow off the Mobile Boutique and transformed it into a mobile store for the 2020 Alberta Winter Games. We may have reached max capacity at the opening ceremonies inside the truck - we had a lot of fun meeting families from across the province and volunteering our time in support of youth sport.
FOOD BANK FUNDRAISER
Getting creative during the COVID crisis, we created 4 fun designs to print on shirts in support of the Airdrie Food Bank. $10 from the sale of each shirt was donated to our local Food Bank - raising over $650.
HELPING WOMEN IN NEED
Sometimes we receive items from manufacturers that are slightly flawed, or un-sellable for various reasons. Most items are still wearable with the imperfections barely noticeable once the item is on. We found a Womens Shelter in Calgary that was very thankful to to take these items off our hands and hopefully help someone who needs it.
Thank you for supporting our small business - it means the world to us!
